FORT COLLINS, Colo. – University of New Mexico men’s basketball players Elijah Brown and Tim Williams have been selected as All-Mountain West conference honorees for the second straight season in the media poll, released Sunday. Brown was selected to second team, while Williams picked up honorable mention honors.
Brown has led New Mexico in scoring at 18.9 points per game, which is second among the Mountain West behind Nevada’s Marcus Marshall. He is also second among the league at 20.7 points per game in conference action. Brown is one of the top free throw shooters among the nation and in the Mountain West. In conference play, he is third among the league at 87.4 percent. He has made and shot the most free throws in the conference at 125 makes of a 143 attempts. He also leads the team in steals with 39, the second straight year he has led in that category and leads the squad in assists with 93 on the year.
Williams, who missed seven conference games due to a stress reaction in his left, finished the conference season averaging 16.9 points per game and was a very efficient shooter at 56.9 percent. He led the Lobos in rebounds at 7.1 per game. On the year, Williams is averaging 17.5 points per game and leads the team at 7.1 rebounds per game.
The coaches will have their Mountain West postseason award selections announced Tuesday. The fifth-seeded Lobos are set to face Fresno State Thursday in the Mountain West Quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. PST/3:30 p.m. MST.
