PHOENIX, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Thursday at the PING/ASU Invitational with the opening round at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 13-over during the opening 18 holes and are in 16th place after the opening day among an elite field where ever team is ranked in the top 80 nationally.

Host Arizona State is leading at 7-under, two shots ahead of Stanford at 5-under. UCLA and Northwestern are tied for third at 4-under.

Myah McDonald shined during the opening round, shooting a 3-under 69 to sit T-5th on the individual leaderboard, one shot off the lead. Annie Saechueng shot a 76 in the second round, while Lauren Lehigh and Lisa-Marie Pagliano each shot 78. Maria Caparros Levin rounded out the lineup with a first round 80.

“We had a lot of birdies, but gave away too many shots on the par 4s,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Myah played super steady and is in a great position.”

The PING/ASU Invitational will continue play Friday and conclude play on Saturday in Phoenix.
