RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play Tuesday at the 2024 Mountain West Championship with the opening round at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club. The Lobos, looking to repeat as conference champion, shot 9-over during the opening 18 holes and are in sixth place after the opening day.

San Jose State leads the championship after round one at 8-under, while Colorado State (2-under) is the only other team under par. UNLV is third at 1-over, while Fresno State (5-over) and San Diego State (6-over) round out the top five.

Lauren Lehigh shined during the opening round, shooting a 2-under 70 to sit T-4th on the individual leaderboard, three shots off the lead. Myah McDonald is just outside the top 10, shooting an even par 72 to be T-11th individually. Annie Saechueng shot 77, Maria Caparros Levin shot 78 and Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot 79 to round out the Lobo lineup.

“We had a very slow start to the tournament,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Lauren and Myah played steady and had a solid first round.”

The Mountain West Championship will continue play Wednesday and conclude on Thursday at Mission Hills.
